Do you know what today is??? Ah… Sunday, Sharon… Says so on the calendar. Pishaw. Don’t be flip with with me.
IT’S WOMEN’S FICTION DAY.
And so…what’s that and I care because?
Because, I’m the creator of Women’s Fiction Day. I launched it way back when I was the Vice President of Communications for the Women’s Fiction Writers Association (WFWA). It’s a day to celebrate books in this impossible to define genre.
Think book club reading. Those juicy, character-driven stories often with thought provoking questions at the end.
Suspense,
Mystery,
Romance,
Relationships.
Women’s Fiction has it all. The central element is that the protagonist changes throughout the book - an emotional journey.
I’m giving away books today and for the next few weeks to make sure YOU dear subscriber have something exciting and meaningful - or maybe just fun to read during the lazy, long, late-night days of summer.
First Up! My book, The Pelican Tide, which turns one on June 11. Wow, what a year it has been. I’ll have more on that in the future.
What’s New For Research for Writers and Other Curious People?
I’ve been in the thick of writing my next book, so these newsletters haven’t been as frequent as I would like. But that is about to change as novel writing spurs the most intense and fun research.
Did you know that rainbows can happen at night? Fish Tacos are comfort food. And according to The Farmer’s Almanac, cats can predict the weather?
Oh…Tarot cards — so much to write about including my recent day spent at a psychic fair with my writing peep, Penny Gilchrist. Check out her Substack.
Books!!!!!
This summer, several of my writing friends have the most amazing books that will have their own giveaways.
Bella Ellwood-Clayton’s The Swimming Group is a twisty, sexy, mystery that will have you rethinking your beach holiday to Cape Cod. Available now. It’s a follow-up to her equally twisty, sexy Weekend Friends.
Libby Klein’s Vice and Virtue - is a new series with heart and humor as a washed-up detective, who is also the daughter of an aging rock star needs to find her place in a new world. It’s set in my backyard of Northern Virginia!
Sharon Kurtzman’s, The Lost Baker of Vienna - enter to win a free copy on Goodreads! arrives in August. This Post-WWII story of a family surviving after the horrors of the Holocaust and the displaced persons camp in Europe. is already generating the type of buzz that make this author swell with hey I know her pride.. I read and cried through an early version of this heart-stopping book.
Those great books and the research behind them are coming soon.
Today, I’m giving away a fun selection of Women’s Fiction books that I’ve enjoyed and I hope you will too!
Want to grab one? It’s easy, just post a comment and maybe a reading recommendation for everyone. First 5 people to comment win a book. The books will be sent at random so you won’t know what you’ll get until it arrives!
A Pelican Says Thanks
The support I’ve received for The Pelican Tide has truly changed my life. Readers are the heart and soul for writers and I have the best ones.
You can continue to support me by posting an honest review of The Pelican Tide if you’ve read it. Reviews are powerful for me on Amazon, my publisher. My hope was to hit 1,000 reviews by my first year and sadly I’ve come up short.
Please help!
Post a review there or anywhere you review books. Download and rate the free Kindle Unlimited edition if you have a KU account. It’s also available on Audible. And if you liked my book, please recommend it to other readers.
Thank you for being part of the Curious People in my life. Happy Women’s Fiction Day. And share this newsletter!!!
Thank you for starting Women’s Fiction Day ❤️
My latest favorite read was The Measure.
I like the Stainless Steel Rat series.
